Truxturn and Pollux Lost In Newfoundland Gale
Two U S Naval ships, the destroyer Truxtun and the stores ship Pollux, were pounded to pieces off Newfoundland in a roaring gale. At least 189 officers and men were killed or missing, including Lt Cmdr Ralph Hickox. Survivors were rescued as the wrecks collapsed after running aground near Lawrence harbor.
