Senate Makes Work Changes in Mapp Prohibition Bill
In Richmond on February 24 the Senate adopted material amendments to the Mapp prohibition bill reducing penalties from felonies to misdemeanors and trimming fines from 1000 to 500 and sentences from five years to six months to twelve months. Provisions fix the prohibition commissioner salary at 3500 yearly and authorize 25000 for two years for expenses. It may strip the commissioner role to the attorney general. House defeated a bill to raise the state auditor’s pay and debated the Chesapeake and its tributaries pollution bill affecting oyster beds. Former official Guy Horner announced candidacy for prohibition commissioner.

Riverton Man Killed By Train Near Bristow
