Pickets clashed again with nonstrikers at the Republic Aviation plant on Long Island paralyzing production. Six pickets were arrested bringing total arrests to 97 and about 33 people were reported hurt.

Winchester merchants call Washington birthday sale a success

The one day sales event on George Washingtons birthday drew 47 local merchants and crowds that swamped stores. Free parking on metered streets from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. spurred higher sales and some outlets reported items sold out or well ahead of last year.

Dozens of new bus boycott arrests were expected as preparations began for a mass meeting of about 10 000 Negroes praying for justice. Six Area Fires Damage Shop and Dwellings

Six fires hit the region since yesterday afternoon. A heavy fire at 343 Fairview Ave in Winchester damaged a shop above a garage, owned by C. W. Clowser. Fire officials cite an exploding oil stove as the cause and list about $3,000 in losses. No other major damage reported from the Oates Ave grass fire. John H.
