Boiler explosion at church kills one and injures forty four
In a church basement dining room during a banquet the boiler blew up in an adjacent room. The woman killed was Mrs. Martha Knestrick Mollenauer a 37 year old church pianist struck by boiler fragments as she passed the boiler room door. The church suffered heavy damage. Fire Chief Lawrence Loar said fatalities could have been higher if the blast hadn’t surged upward through the boiler room ceiling into the auditorium.
