The first woman to be electrocuted in Pennsylvania dies in the death chair after being found guilty in a murder case. Her accomplice, a so called bandit lover, is executed alongside her.
Irene Schroeder and Walter Glenn Dague died in the electric chair at Rockview penitentiary at dawn after pleading guilty to the killing of Corporal Brady Paul. Both walked to execution in calm fashion, not seeing each other first thing, with a screen placed between cells. The man’s pastor attended, and a final prayer preceded the final current.
Friendship Fire Company members attended a sermon by Rev. W. L. Dudley at the Church of Disciples on West Cork Street. Led by Captain Fred W. Forney, they marched from the engine house on East Cork Street to reserved seats as the pastor praised their service and likened it to saving souls, with the church choir performing.
In Annapolis Maryland on February 23 Mrs Blanche Sibley age 30 and her 10 year old son John of Baltimore drowned in the South River at Camp Coney three miles from Annapolis The mother and two children fell into eight foot deep water Beverly three years old survived after being pulled from the river by the father Duke C Sibley Captain Edward N Dixon of the state conservation patrol saved the father and later recovered the bodies of Mrs Sibley and John
The speed boat Mandela laden with liquor escaped Coast Guard fire in Naragansett bay east passage. The craft shot past a barricade and outran pursuing patrol boats, remaining at large for about an hour before authorities located it again.
In Port Arthur Texas on Feb 23 an explosion at the Gulf Oil Refinery high pressure still killed four men and injured twelve. One worker was missing as fire swept a large portion of the refinery and shook homes in Beaumont sixteen kilometers away.
Andrew Bell secretary of the Chamber of Commerce asked the owner who bought Virginia license plate 210-272 to return it and all papers to the chamber office at once. The buyer reportedly took the wrong papers, rendering the plates void. Mr and Mrs Foster of Cleveland Ohio are guests at the George Washington Hotel.
A Brooklyn gang clash at Paramount Danceland leaves one man dead and another critically wounded with several others injured. Irish youths clash with Italian faction members as chaos erupts among hundreds of revelers, with women trampled and exits crowded. Police report the fatal shooting occurred during a disruption after the orchestra played Home Sweet Home.
Regular classes for the four local volunteer fire companies will be held at 8 o clock tomorrow evening in their engine houses. The squads will cover life saving, resuscitation, and first aid training after praised recent rescue efforts at Russell Penn incident in a garage fire.
The funeral of Elizabeth Powell Shanholtz 86 widow of Robert Shanholtz who died Saturday at her Cross Junction area home was held this morning at Wesley Chapel with Rev. Charles Wagner Gainesboro officiating. Interment followed in the church graveyard. She is survived by a son J L Shanholtz.
Infant Nancy Lee Virginia Orndorff, 13 days old, died at 8:30 PM at 317 Highland Ave. She was born February 13. Mrs. Orndorff, formerly Miss Mary Katherine Taylor, resided in the city. Funeral held at 3 PM from the home. Interment at Mount Hebran Cemetery.
Luther Pannett announces candidacy for re election as Sheriff of Frederick County Virginia subject to the Democratic Primary on August 4 1931 He asks support from voters who approved his past management and promises to continue giving his best The notice also mentions new hosiery styles at Moling and Cathers.
Senate approval of a 20 million dollar bill funds construction and maintenance of veterans hospitals nationwide. Virginia would gain a 400 bed facility, sites to be chosen by the Veterans Bureau for best climate and access. Colonel Roszel and Senator Swanson led advocacy for a Virginia hospital in the bill's new form.
City church chairmen and committees meet at First Baptist Church at 8 PM to learn canvassing plans for the Children's Home Society of Virginia. Tomorrow about 130 volunteers from diverse churches will mobilize for the annual fund drive led by church chairmen, with several churches still reporting their heads. Washington reports all embargo and tariff bills were rejected by the HouseWays and Means Committee. Chairman Hawley noted the panel voted down a plan to limit oil imports to 16 million barrels annually and moved to postpone action on the temporary agriculture embargo and the Williamson bill to ban all Russian products.

Gill, wearing number 20, is touted as one of the best centers in basketball. A decision on local game arrangements was expected that night after matches against Fadco Frederick Md Eagles Washington Alsatia Hagerstown and Firemen Barton Md.
Warren County Virginia officials receive payments totaling 41 109.16 from Aetna Casualty and National Surety on Warthen treasurer bond liabilities. Commissioner Steck reports National Surety liable for 60 000 plus penalties and interest, Aetna liable for 23 966.28 plus interest, court to decide how much each owes toward the 82 000 deficit.
Mrs. Alice M. Foreman aged 68 died at her Fairfax Avenue home after a weeks illness from complications. She leaves her husband William Foreman a daughter Mrs. Edward W. Grant and siblings William Snapp Joseph Snapp Mrs. Mary Wisecarver Mrs. Annie Williams and Mrs. Carrie Rice. Funeral services are set for Tuesday at 3 pm at the house with Rev. J. D. Russell and Rev. Dr. L. A. Thomas officiating. interment at Mount Hebron Cemetery.
Barreled apples showed better prices at Liverpool auction on February 18 aided by high grade quality. Boxed apples fell slightly with many lots withdrawn due to poor prices. Demand for boxes was slow while barreled fruit saw improved demand. scalding remained an issue for oiled paper packing.
Trevor J Johns age 45 son of William J Johns of Pittsburgh died of pneumonia in the Marine Hospital Pittsburgh after eight days illness. He lived in Welch for ten years since marriage to Estelle Powers and is survived by his wife and three children. Funeral held in Pittsburgh with his family present. burial in a local Pittsburgh cemetery.

Andrew R. Vance died at his home 16 East Cecil street after an acute indigestion attack in the afternoon. He served in World War I at Camp Humphreys and Washington Barracks but did not go overseas. Survived by his father James H. Vance. mother Louisa Swanson. two sisters Mrs R R Hillyard and Mrs Frank W Patton. two brothers Luther and Ollie F Vance. Funeral Tuesday at 2:30 pm from the house with Rev. Dr F T McFaden officiating. Mount Hebron Cemetery burial. The Elks Lodge to attend with memorial service at the grave. Pallbearers listed.
