The Senate sent back the 4.88 billion relief bill to the appropriations committee while discussing a separate 880 million direct relief measure and a 4 billion work relief plan with a prevailing wage provision opposed by President Roosevelt. The day also featured tributes to George Washington and references to Mount Vernon as Congress paused for the birthday observance.
Harry Allamong a 38 year old mechanic of Gore was slashed with a butcher knife in a domestic quarrel last night. He suffered cuts to the abdomen chest and forehead and was hospitalized at Memorial Hospital in a not serious condition. Sheriff Harry L. McCann said no charges yet but felonious assault could be filed against Mrs Allamong depending on his condition. The incident reportedly occurred after his return home from Winchester where the dispute began.
Tokyo reports the Japanese navy ordered the American crewing of the tanker Kellog to dock near Yokosuka for inspection after it grounded near the Tokyo Bay fortresses. Investigators will determine if the grounding was intentional or accidental and whether fortresses were photographed during the incident.
Two probated wills listed in Frederick County circuit court records. The Himelright will of Star Tannery, written 1925 with a 1929 codicil revoking a provision names executors John M. and Warren W. Himelright and assigns bonds and appraisers. The Sargent will of Nain bequeaths all to widow Alice E. Largent, dated 1914. Administrators named for Hammack and Foreman estates with bonds posted.
Secretary Ickes said $238 million in public works funds for navy warship construction was allocated by executive order without his approval. Senate committee pressed him as to quicker employment options under the PWA. William B. Shearer, seen as a navy propagandist, was asked to wait to testify while exhibits are reviewed.
Frank Micciche announces he will not vacate the storeroom at 103 North Loudoun Street but has subleased part of the ground floor to Lomax Parker for a new grocery and meat store. Parker will share the space while Micciche continues his fruit and vegetable trade.
City crews began resurfacing the rear parking area and the south side alley of the bus terminal. Several inches of asphaltic tar mixed with stone were laid in a cold application and rolled to a smooth compact surface. Buses unloaded from Braddock street during the work and will resume unloading on the south side after completion to ease Braddock street congestion.
The Stephens City Community League will meet Tuesday February 26 at 8 oclock in the high school auditorium. A play titled The Deestrik Skule will be performed by upper high school students. The public is invited and members are urged to attend.
Two defendants were convicted of operating a numbers racket in a crowded court. Snowden was fined 50 dollars plus costs 860.25 and six months in jail. Lamar received a 25 dollar fine and three months in jail. Spot Brown testified about calls from Hagerstown and telegrams claiming the winning number. Other cases included Nat Deal charged with drunkenness and disorderly conduct with two months in jail and fines.

Essex farmer reports two sisters leaped from an airliner over Upminster at 3000 feet. Their farewell notes were found on a seat and not revealed to the public. A witness, Frank Salmon, described seeing two figures fall and hit the ground as he stood nearby. Wiley Post, aiming for a high altitude non stop flight from Los Angeles to New York, was forced to land at Muroc Dry Lake in the Mojave Desert. His Winnie Mae landed without damage aside from a bent propeller plate and mechanics were dispatched to assist.
Chicago report says Mrs. Hankel testified her husband Fred Hankel mumbled the name Gertrude in sleep. She sues for divorce claiming alienation of affections and seeks $100000 from Mrs. Gertrude Reich Walk.
All major security and commodity markets in the United States were closed for Washingtons birthday with cattle markets exempt. Canadian and European markets remained open as usual.

F. A. Read was named director of the 1930 Apple Blossom Festival by unanimous vote. Mrs Katherine BE Maphis 50 wife of Benjamin Maphis of North Loudoun street died of a heart attack yesterday afternoon after shopping and walking home. She left a husband a daughter and two sons at home five stepsons survive. Funeral services will be held tomorrow morning at United Brethren Church with burial in West Virginia.
The twelfth annual Apple Blossom Festival confirms Fred A. Read Jr as director-general succeeding Pinckney Arthur. H Clay DeGrange will serve as treasurer, with Thomas B. Byrd chairing the executive committee. New members Eugene R Branch Fred L Glaize Jr McSherry Lu Garlan R Quarles Peyton shall W R Legge D J Howard Lester Arnold added to management.
