Funeral Rites for Veteran John Singleton Jesse Held Tuesday
John Singleton Jesse, a Confederate veteran and trusted scout to Col Mosby, died at Stone Crest near Berryville after two weeks of pneumonia. He served as a courier carrying messages from commanders to General Cher idan and remained active on his Clarke County farm despite illness. He died in the afternoon following a brief recovery when his other lung failed, to be continued on page three.
