Joseph H. Chitwood , longtime district attorney for the western district of Virginia, died at his Roanoke home at 6 a.m. He had resigned February 3 due to ill health after serving two terms. Born March 14, 1877, in Rocky Mount, he held degrees from William and Mary and the University of Virginia, practiced law in Roanoke, and served in the Virginia House of Delegates in 1907-08.
