Richmond Va Feb 19 Commissioner of Corrections Rice M Youell told the House investig ating committee that Norfolk county jail conditions led the board to order its closing on January 14 193? The jail was described as dirty with liquor available and some intermingling of the sexes a wild party involving prisoners and possibly officers and a letter to Governor Darden and a sworn affidavit from a prisoner were cited as part of the evidence The board planned to reopen the jail only after cleaning and proper supervision are assured.

Culpeper Men Held For Grand Jury In Sugar Case
Clyde Stringfellow and William Clark were arraigned in Culpeper Magistrate Court and held for the Grand Jury after city police broke a sugar theft case. Seven county residents and one Shenandoah county resident were detained for questioning. Captain Swann Killed in North Carolina Glider Accident
Captain Edgar A. Swann, a chaplain in the U S Army from Pinehurst North Carolina was killed in a glider accident in North Carolina.
