Amputation Emergency After Crane Crash in Lowell
John McCoy a Lowell Gas Light Company worker was trapped when a traveling crane jumped its track 80 feet above ground and jammed his arm between the crane cab and a steel girder. Surgeon Dr N Gillmor Long amputated the arm at the shoulder after firemen failed to free him. The worker remained conscious and in critical condition at a local hospital.
