City interview with City Manager Pilcher explains CWA has three project classes Federal state and local with funds from the original CWA allocation. Local signs mark each site and the National Cemetery is the principal Federal project. Other projects include business census reemployment census and sanitation work.
West Virginia fruit growers adopted resolutions in Martinsburg calling for a reappraisement of orchard properties. They criticized the new automobile license law requiring twelve month licenses as impractical for remote growers. The West Virginia Horticulture Society also protested a proposed 25 percent cut in Department of Agriculture funding.
Handley High School growlers meet Pony Express outfit of Washington in eight bouts. The event, postponed from tomorrow, will start at 8 pm on Wednesday February 21, following a 7:30 pm Boy Scouts basketball game and three local boxing bouts.
Judge Philip Williams in Frederick County Circuit Court granted beer licenses to James S. Peery and Harriett V. Coffman. C. C. Mayes of Nain secured a soft drink license.
On February 21 1934 at 10 am a meeting of all automotive wholesalers under the Wholesale Automotive Trade Code will be held at the Hamilton Hotel Washington DC to elect a district administrative committee.
Donald K. Smith, 30, of Colorado, was found guilty of second degree murder in the death of his three year old son Donald Arlen at a Littleton courtroom. The jury delivered the verdict after his wife testified the child was beaten for mispronouncing the word breakfast. The sentence ranges from 10 years to life in prison.
Two automobile accidents were reported to local officials over the weekend. On Berryville road inside the city limits A W Shade and C D Adams collided. both cars damaged, Adams severely hurt and treated at Memorial Hospital. The second crash on Route 50 involved Raymond Patton backing a truck. Charles Pennington suffered a lip cut, both treated at the hospital.
State Highway Department orders truck drivers to stop using metal tires and tractor cleats on macadamized highways. Officers Bayliss and Miller notify that it is unlawful to run such tires or cleated machinery over the road. Fillers must be used on cleats to protect pavement and arrests are authorized for violations.

The Rev. W. L. Dudley preached on self sacrifice and duty in a memorial sermon for the Friendship Fire Company. Seven members, including former captains Breckenridge and Grimm, died since last year. The service, led by Rev. Nelson and Marion Anderson, drew over 100 firemen who marched from the engine house to Christ Church with hymns and a male quartet.

The Virginia Novelty Orchestra from Stephens City will broadcast an all-request program on WJEJ Hagerstown Md. next Wednesday February 21 from 1 15 to 1 30 PM. The program features old tunes and songs and invites all listeners. The musicians are Carl Martin Russell Robinson J S Jenkins and Leslie Galladay.
Miss Mary Jo Matthews of Mannington West Virginia former Queen Shenandoah VIII at the Apple Blossom Festival goes to Hollywood to try out for films. She rose to fame as a beauty queen at West Virginia University and did stage work in New York after passing screen tests. Her latest stage appearance was in the musical comedy Let Em Eat Cake.

Palm Beach photographer Frank Turgeon Jr plans to travel to Virginia this spring to shoot historic sites from the air. He says the project supports Virginia business publicity, though his employer is not named. Turgeon retains negatives with the Chamber of Commerce secretary for future promotional use.

Mrs Fannie Huyett Helvestine 66 widow of Claudius A Helvestine of Berryville Clarke county died at 10 o clock last night in Winchester Memorial Hospital after a lingering illness due to complications She was born May 19 1868 in Washington county Md and was a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Stone Krouse Her husband died in Memorial Hospital about four years ago She is survived by three brothers Benjamin L Krouse of Winchester William Krouse of Caldwell N J and Joseph Krause of Newark N J and one sister Mrs Elizabeth Steele of National avenue in this city She was a sister in law of Edward Helvestine and Miss Dora Helvestine of Berryville The body will be kept at the home of Mrs Steele here until 2 o clock Wednesday afternoon when the funeral party will leave for Berryville where funeral services will be held in the Baptist Church by Rev Dr L A Parker Interment will be in the churchyard.

Chief Hollis announced a four zone night patrol plan with one officer per zone and two sergeants at headquarters to handle emergencies. Patrols report hourly to Capt. Boyd under this system, approved by Mayor Anderson after Council added an extra officer. The plan takes effect tonight.
County disbursing officer Eugene Childs announced Saturday that Frederick county C. W. A. payroll totaled $437.57 for the week, including $90.50 for administrative expense. Total hours worked were 1,176, with 120 hours of administrative service.
