A Bayway Refinery alcohol plant explosion in New Jersey killed ten workers and left about twenty with life threatening injuries. The high pressure naptha line reportedly ruptured during construction near the plant, igniting fumes and prompting a lethal blast at 3 55 p m. on a 1 100 man night shift.
London dispatch reports Italy’s Dino Grandi announcing Italian naval policy seeks reduction and parity with continental powers. The statement completes a series of declarations by major powers at the Five Power Naval Conference amid discussions of abolishing capital ships and equalizing tonnage.
Edward, held by Sheriff George C. Fowble on orders of State's Attorney Theodore S. Brown, is accused in a case involving Keefer’s will. Keefer left property to his wife for life then to Edward, with exhumation and post mortem tests in Baltimore. The coroner’s inquest will determine next steps as Edward remains jailed.
Bryan Clark was arraigned before Police Justice Weems for stealing an overcoat and scarf from the Winches ter Billiard Parlor. He received six months on the state road with sentence suspended awaiting return to the army. The overcoat belonged to W. A. Baker of the Commercial Hotel. A ruby stickpin was recovered. a small amount of cash is missing. A scarf from William Cek was taken and Clark said he was intoxicated and unable to recall details.
An order in Frederick County Circuit Court names Thomas W. Harrison as judge pro tempore for the case G. A. Baker et al versus Pearl Beckey et al. Judge Philip Williams recused himself since he helped represent a party before elevation. Harrison, returning to his old seat, will sit in at hearing while continuing as congressman-elect.
Dodd's Super Service Station will open at the corner of Boscawen and Amber streets in Winchester offering Shell gasoline and motor oil. The new station promises full gas and oil lines, battery service, and quick car maintenance including differential flushing and crankcase service.
In Chicago a dawn bomb blast at Cosmos Products Company on the south side caused several thousand dollars in damage and forced residents to flee. Police suspect bootleggers angry at the firm for not buying their alcohol used in drugs and drug store supplies. Masked assailants robbed G. W. Webber and his wife of 3500 dollars in cash and jewels. Two Tuesday murders also occupied detectives.
Tickets for the Merry Makers program at Handley School go on sale Thursday February 20 at the box office. Adult price one dollar fifty cents, children thirty five cents.
News reports from New York Times and allied papers state the Byrd expedition ship City of New York has reached the Bay of Whales camp and begun loading with plans to sail home soon. The Eleanor Bolling, supply ship, reported heavy snow and many whales near its position 1,076 miles southeast of Taiaroa Head, New Zealand, ahead of a rendezvous with the Park City of New York.
Lions Club members repeated their bazaar luncheon at the Barah Zane Fire Company hall after a successful meal. A 75 cent Friday noon event will feature olives bullion fried oysters ham creamed chicken on toast slaw sweet potatoes peas hot rolls ice cream and cake. Musicians from Mount Vernon Hills radio program will play nightly for the bazaar as crowds enjoy bingo country store and prize drawings with proceeds aiding the fire company.
BELLAIRE Ohio Feb 19 Guy Chesina Belmont county under cover prohibition officer was in critical condition at a local hospital today with two bullet wounds after being shot on the street last night Officials said the shooting was a reprisal for his testimony before the Belmont county grand jury which led to the indictment of 13 persons on liquor law violations Chesina had been indicted for liquor law violations but the charge was dismissed at the request of the state prohibition agent.
Fred Sine seven year old son of Mr and Mrs R L Sine of Cold Stream West Virginia died at Memorial Hospital after treatment for internal disorders. He had surgery for appendicitis and later developed further complications leading to his death yesterday.
Construction begins on a National Fruit Product Company canning factory in Waynesboro Virginia. The 250 foot long building will process apples and by products like apple butter and canned apples. The plant aims to aid Augusta County apple growers and will join existing factories in Winchester and Martinsburg.

Three globe trotters from London near the end of a six year walk for a $50,000 prize offered by Shrives Walking Club. They started June 4, 1926 in London and head to Boston to sail home. The group includes Nebrasker Williams, his wife LaFrances, and sister Fleetwood Williams. They represent the races alongside 20 other international competitors. Nebrasker and La Frances wed at departure and their child, born in South America, now accompanies them in Boston.

W H Wodl of Wilmington Del died at Washington County Hospital early today from injuries suffered when the automobile overturned Monday on a slippery road. M L Lambert of Baltimore driver escaped injury and J E Garrett of Baltimore was slightly hurt. both left the hospital after treatment to return to Wilmington for Wood's family.
