Fire Toll Tops $25 000 in Boyd Residence Blaze

A 1962 appraisal valued the Boyd residence at 421 S Loudoun at about 34 000 with fire damage expected near 26 000. Chief William N Goch Groves cited ignition near a coal bin and furnace area, with the blaze burning five hours Saturday. The Whitacre family also lived nearby at 41S Loudoun and likely escaped the worst damage.Continued on Page 5 Col 5.

Old Wadesville home destroyed by blaze in bitter cold

Firemen faced frozen nozzles and water shortages as flames leveled a two story log and wood sided home believed built by Mr. Wade in Wadesville. The 150 year old house contained eight rooms and was ablaze before 4 a.m. Fire crews from multiple towns fought the fire amid subzero temps and a broken power line.
