Wheat and corn jump after court gold clause ruling
Wheat and corn prices rose more than 2 cents a bushel as the court decisions on gold clauses were announced. The Board of Trade suspended trading and then prices climbed, with May wheat near 89 and May corn around 86 1/2. Norman Co. Norman calls the ruling “flabbergasting” and says it renders private contracts nearly useless. Train Strikes Giant Ball Killing Two Railmen
Cecil Alabama February 17 two men died and five were injured when a giant ball rolled onto a Seaboard Air Line freight train causing the engine to derail near here. Engineer T H Cox of Montgomery and Fireman R Vorus of Americus were killed. Transients Morgan H Brown of Haskell Oklahoma and Herman Fowlkes of Daytona Beach Florida suffered fractured legs and other injuries. The accident occurred at 7 20 a m as the train from Bainbridge Georgia to Montgomery Alabama rode into a muddy ditch after striking the ball. Conductor Griffith and Dorman were aboard the caboose and reported the steam hindered access to the engine.
