Bodies of Deputies Found Dead in Woods Near Danville
Two Lafayette Indiana deputy sheriffs John P. Grove and Wallace McClure disappeared February 7 while transporting convicts John Burns and Samuel Baxter. Their bodies were found in a Foster wood between Danville and Covington, with arms straight and heads crushed. Police linked the escapees to the crime. Burns and Baxter remain at large. The investigation centered on a car found in Decatur Illinois and a robe found with the victims. Herman Kyle identified the convicts from photographs and said one drove the vehicle.

Mae Russell presided as association president with a varied program including music readings and a Valentine buffet supper. Hugh McCoy a well known retired farmer and long time county resident died at his home on North Kent Street from paralysis after a stroke.
