Ed Skyles of Front Royal led individuals with 129, followed by Harley DeHaven of Handley and Rex Sedwick of Front Royal.

Pan American Airways announced Harry L. Hopkins Roosevelt's personal envoy to England will fly from San Juan Puerto Rico directly to New York aboard the Yankee Clipper. The U S Army Air Forces reported the first fatality among the American Eagle Squadron, Edwin E Orbison 23 of Sacramento California, killed on a training flight while pursuing a German aircraft.
In Hasselt Belgium on February 15 a raft ferrying thirty school children overturned in the Albert Canal. Only five children were saved.

Bern officials disclose the frontier closure began February six with Italian mail no longer delivered. The Bern post office still accepts Italian mail but its delivery is suspended.
In French Indochina on Feb 15 the Japanese cruiser Nagara arrived at Saigon and tied up as about 100 marines lined the dock to greet it. Nagara replaces Abukuma which was due to depart tomorrow after landing significant equipment for Japanese troops and airmen who arrived recently without French permission.
Naval data compiled for information of Congress shows Britain reinforced its fleet with 138 fighting ships in the last three months. Additions include 11 destroyers besides 50 acquired from the United States, two battleships, two aircraft carriers and five cruisers, offset by the loss of seven submarines.
Clarke County Supervisors push ahead with school building plan for Berryville and Boyce, proposing a 20 cent levy increase to fund a 35 thousand dollar Berryville addition and a 60 thousand dollar Boyce building, plus three new buses. Consolidation steps aim to ease congestion and reduce one room school counts while awaiting March action.
In Berryville Virginia a joint meeting of the town council and Clarke County Board of Supervisors deferred provision of uniforms for the Clarke County Protective Service Company organized by Captain Frank Wray. Officials will seek county cooperation from Warren and Loudoun where similar companies are not yet formed. Captain Wray indicated steps may be taken to secure funding and uniform procurement.

Winchester and Frederick county see continued high demand for marriage licenses in 1940 with a total of 6,838 issued, up from 4,061 in 1939. City and county offices report strong starts for 1941 with 244 licenses in January. The statewide vital statistics show a drop of 14,980 from August to December 1939, while 1940 state total rose to 62,678 from 52,719.
Earl Whitacre 33, saw mill operator of High View, West Virginia, died in Memorial Hospital from injuries from a crash near Ridge. State police converged from Martinsburg. car reportedly rolled three times after losing control on a straight road. Witnesses from Everett Pennsylvania identified as John Bucket Paul Spraul and Samuel England. Whitacre survived by parents A B Whitacre and wife Goldie Brill and two children Doris and Billy plus three brothers. Funeral plans not set.
London reports a “free” Rumanian movement emerging from cover since November. It claims 4,000 supporters in Britain and 350,000 in the United States and Canada. Viorel Tilea, once Romanian minister in London, leads the effort after being deprived of citizenship and charged with high treason. Some Romanian legation members at the break in relations with Britain have declined to leave.
Frederick County Selective Service Board announces questionnaires are mailed to registrants in order number group 450 to 600 inclusive at a rate of 50 per day.
Three Sacramento men allegedly confessed to plotting to wreck a Southern Pacific passenger train and sending a $5000 extortion letter. Federal agents questioned them after admitting removing spikes from a 24 foot track section near Towle, 50 miles northeast of here, on February 8. Repairs were made before the westbound train passed.
In Sofia on February 15 a pocket book containing Col William J Donovan's lost diplomatic passport money and letters was found wrapped in an old newspaper and turned to the lost property office. The disappearance occurred January 22 as Donovan prepared to depart for Belgrade on a secret mission. Police continue the investigation following the earlier palace search at King Boris residence.
ASHLAND Va February 15 David W Levi and Thomas C Iden both Berryville natives are named to Randolph Macon College dean's list first semester Levi tops the sophomore class with a 96.4 average and appears in the A section while Iden also earns dean's list honors with strong grades across the term.
Mary Stevenson a 55 year old gypsy mother of 12 was sentenced to three years in the house of correction for obtaining 2000 dollars from a Frederick black woman to remove a curse. Judge Arthur D Willard ordered two more three year terms for separate charges to run concurrently while two counts were suspended. The trial heard of a 2000 dollar swindle on June 15 and a 500 swindle on June 7. The gypsy fainted at sentencing and was revived as her children watched. Her home is in Baltimore and she works as a house maid in Frederick.
Senate opponents of the lend lease bill push an amendment requiring Britain to state expected peace terms before any U S military aid would be released. The group led by Senator Wheeler argues for conditions on arms to Britain while planning floor amendments and strategy.
ANCHORAGE Alaska Feb 15 Pi Ten of the United States Army top skiers report themselves safe at an Alaskan railroad section after a brutal blizzard. They had left with five days of supplies aiming to traverse mountain passes and return, but were delayed by the storm. An aerial search by army bomber and civilian plane assisted the effort.
