The United States Civil Service Commission announces open competitive exams for customs examiner's aid at 2300 dollars a year and junior engineer at 2000 dollars. Full information from Herman Lee secretary at the post office in this city.
Four men were arrested on house breaking charges in Toronto when Charles Barham, posing as a first offender on a drunkenness charge, escaped from a jail corridor after obtaining a sleeping inmate’s name and having his own name signed to a receipt for personal effects. Police say Barham, who was left in a corridor before a cell, walked out amid releases on recognizance.
Riverside officials place a wrecked automobile on the village hall front lawn as a traffic death reminder. A placard reads The wreck is here, but he's gone and the car is illuminated at night to deter reckless driving.

Plans for the funeral of Sheriff J W Newcome include a Wednesday service at Macedonia Methodist Church in Frederick County with burial in the adjoining graveyard. Relatives meet at his South Cameron street home at 2 pm then proceed to the church for the 3 pm service conducted by Rev George L Waters and Rev J D Russell.
Memorial Hospital reports State Officer George Miller is slightly better after a critical wound last night by George Pingley. A blood transfusion from Judge Don ald Weems aided his condition, though doctors deem his outlook still very serious. Miller is a Handley High School alum and Clarke County resident stationed near Winchester with the Virginia National Guard.
The War Department announced six flying fortresses will depart Langley Field Virginia tomorrow around noon for Buenos Aires to take part in ceremonies inaugurating Robert M Ortiz as ace of Argentina. The planes will stop at Miami Florida as the departure point for the flight.

John Buck Sprouse is held in Albemarle county jail on murder charges for the slaying of Tandy Gibson and wounding of Mrs Marion Gibson. Sprouse surrendered after a weeklong manhunt and was indicted by the Albemarle Circuit Court.
Safe robbers cracked the Powers and Anderson Dental Company on the second floor, escaping with about 6000 dollars worth of dental gold. W Frank Powers reported the theft to police as detectives noted unbroken first floor safes and no fingerprints, suggesting glove use by the burglars.
