A pilot was captured as the cost of the latest American strike on Communist North Vietnam was fixed today at three U.S. Navy jets.
In Qui Nhon Vietnam a 30 year old Spec 4 Arthur Abendschein of Deptford New Jersey was pulled from rubble after 35 hours buried in a four story enlisted men billet bombed by Viet Cong. He described injuries and said he fired at attackers during the collapse.
A Stephen City resident’s child was seen on TV boarding a bus carrying evacuees from Saigon to an airport. Mrs. David Crocker and her three children arrived at Dulles Airport. her husband, with the Soil Conservation Service in Saigon, stayed behind. She taught school in Vietnam and was formerly Mary Evelyn Steel. Red Cross volunteers seek leftover yarn for lap throws, blankets, and baby articles at the local office. The Apple Blossom Festival Pageant seeks a 45 speed record for The Ugly Bug Ball by Burl Ives, with festival calls to two numbers.
Premier Kosygin told Tass in Pyongyang that imperialist provocations in Viet Nam have drawn the Soviet Union and Communist China closer to curb aggressors. He spoke after meetings in Peking with Mao Zedong and Chou En-lai, and during a tour of Asia promising aid to North Viet Nam.

A three judge federal panel in Richmond declines to rule now on Virginia's anti miscegenation statute. The case brought by Richard Loving and Mildred Loving seeks state court or federal resolution. They were arrested after their 1958 Washington DC marriage and given suspended prison terms conditioned on leaving Virginia.
President Johnson announced a high level State Department shakeup with Averell Harriman leaving the undersecretary post. Thomas C. Mann will become undersecretary for economic affairs and Harriman will be ambassador at large. Jack Hood Vaughn will take over the inter American assignment. George E. Reedy noted the moves following Harriman’s request to reduce admin duties.
William W. Brendle 31 of Stephens City is ordered to Southwestern State Hospital Marion for pretrial mental examinations to assess current and past mental state in the pistol slaying of Ralph E. Clark 48 of a used car dealer. Judge Elliott D. Marshall upheld the motion by Acting Commonwealth's Attorney Peter K. McKee to send Brendle for evaluation amid an indictment by a Frederick County grand jury. Clark was shot to death near Rt 7 east of the city limits on Feb 3 in a case linked to local political figures.
Dr George R Seidel of Du Pont spoke to about 275 at the 68th annual Rouss Fire Co banquet at the George Washington Hotel. He attributed America's growth to freedom self reliance hard work and frugality and said competition and consumer choice drive progress.
