Frederick County landowner hurt in alleged tenant assault
C E Cougill a major landowner near Stephens City says he was struck on the head with a nail studded board by his tenant John Cooley during a farm dispute south of Stephens City. He bled heavily and received first aid before being treated by Dr Montgomery and later moved to Gilly Locke’s home for the night in a perilous condition. No arrest warrant was sworn due to his condition and Cooley reportedly fled toward Stephens City.
