AP Special Assignment Team and Jean Heller trace a multimillion-dollar scheme in which a St. Louis firm won rocket launcher contracts despite indictments. Swiss bankers supplied hundreds of falsified documents through shadow companies as defendants face sentencing.
Federal authorities link two Swiss bankers to a multimillion dollar Navy defense fraud. American players led by Francis N. Rosenbaum and Andrew L. Stone used dummy U S subcontractors and fraudulent European bills to siphon millions into secret Swiss accounts. Prosecutors say inside help is key to breaking such schemes.
Murat Williams a retired diplomat and cattle grower says he is considering seriously a bid for the 7th District Democratic nomination. He notes John O Marsh will not seek the nomination and cites potential Democratic support in the district. Williams has previous campaign roles and predicts a primary rather than a convention.
President Nixon sent a special message to Congress proposing widespread environmental programs. He urges stricter water and air standards, tougher enforcement with fines up to ten thousand dollars per day, and federal authority over pollution on all navigable waters as well as intrastate cases.

An avalanche at Val d Isere in France during a fierce blizzard buried a holiday camp housing about 250 youths and staff. Rescue efforts continued as winds raged and more victims were feared in wrecked cars and a nearby hotel.
