Blizzard Deepens Ice Age Toll Cuts Jobs and Spreads Freezing Cold

New York and the East battle the worst blizzard in two years with 39 deaths attributed to the storm. Temperatures plunged to near zero as Govs. Rockefeller and Hughes mobilized shelters and a banking holiday was declared in New Jersey. Airports closed and city hotels saw a boom as customers sought heat and shelter. Stores and factories largely shut down and economic activity ground to a halt.

Town Crier reports 14 degrees below zero in Giles Hollow near Berryville Pike and Opequon Creek. Deep Freeze Grips Frederick County as Snow Toll Rises

The area saw 10 inches of snow and temperatures down to two below zero marking the coldest in four years. Winchester and Clarke County schools closed with plans to reopen tomorrow. Snow removal crews operated on Plan C in Winchester as 90 percent of secondary roads were plowed and passable.Berryville reported minus 10 with 13 inches of snow. The season total rose to 21.14 inches with more snow expected and continued frigid conditions into the week.

Powell Refuses to Answer at House Hearing

Fort Lauderdale dining robbery echoes movie scene

A gang of youths robbed 16 customers at gunpoint inside Ernie's Restaurant in Fort Lauderdale Florida. No one was hurt though a woman talked them into not taking her belongings. They fled in a car with $150, handbags, and a $600 watch plus about $150 from the cash drawer. Police describe the suspects as youths in their late teens to early 20s.
