Rosney Farm Tract in Clarke County Traces History
Rosney, a farm one mile south of Mill Wood in Clarke County once called the Rattie Snake Tract dates to before 1770. It passed through Burwell heirs to Nelsons and Ryans, later to the Carters, Lees, and Stine family lines, with ownership evolving into Rosney House era by 1940 and the name evolving to Rosney before 1830.

Farm Hand Shoots Girl on Virginia Road
Fourteen year old Marian Lloyd was shot on a rural Virginia road by farmhand George Thomas Hailey who had borrowed a shotgun shell to hunt crows. Sheriff J A Tune said Hailey confessed to approaching Marian, striking her with the gun butt, dragging her body to brush, then fleeing to his mother’s house before turning himself in.
