A Chicago fire incident at a north side manufacturing plant shows Fireman Mike Stanton holding a ladder with one hand and a hose with the other to avoid a fall as the truck pulled away and snagged the hose, snapping the ladder.
A Frederick County special committee began examining renovating the 120 year old courthouse building. It weighed preserving outward appearance against possible high interior costs and debated possibly constructing a new building while stressing the need for separate county court and circuit court rooms and improved facilities for juveniles, domestic relations, jurors and staff. Fire officials will view the new 1960 Seagrave cab-forward pumper at South End Fire Hall after 6 p.m. tomorrow. It is the first of its kind in the area, en route from the factory to the ordering company.
Front Royal leaders George Silek and Bernard Stokes will lead a delegation to a Richmond public hearing on the state sales tax. They urged opponents to meet at 10 a.m. at the courthouse for organized transportation. Stokes stated the exact plan was to be announced.
The Senate approved a three part constitutional amendment aimed at ending the poll tax and expanding District of Columbia voting rights while enabling temporary House vacancies in disasters. The proposal passes 70 to 18, shifting to the House for action with state ratification needed within seven years.

Dorothy Lebohner 18, daughter of Alfred University official, was found Tuesday night in Times Square with Warren Sutton 21 of Chester Pa. They had walked, eaten at Automats, and spent days in movie houses after she vanished from a Florida trip with her parents. The ring she wore was a friendship band, not an engagement. Sutton said he planned to return home. police released him after questioning.
President Eisenhower praised the United States missile program as gratifying and rejected a continuous bomber alert proposed by Gen. Power. He backed Gates and Twining over Power, praised Nixon but endorsed no candidate, and urged Republicans to present a stronger, clearer party message.
Two new candidates enter the city council race for the April 5 primary. William M. Battaile seeks the first ward seat and William Edwin Bridgeforth Jr. runs in the second ward. Incumbents and others file as party records show a fiveway Democratic contest for three seats.
Vice President Richard M. Nixon readies his own farm policy for a possible campaign as President Eisenhower plans to send a Benson based program to Congress. Democrats vow to scrutinize any Nixon draft and stress Nixon bears responsibility for the administration's farm program.
