A dispatch reports U.S. Marine units are ordered to Shanghai with instructions that the transfer should occur as soon as feasible, detailing rapid redeployment amid evolving postwar duties and international tensions.
A force of 250 American marines will leave Cavite for Shanghai aboard the Pecos, with 15 officers and 251 men in total. The move combines units from Cavite and the Gold Star crew now at Cavite, aiming to shift personnel swiftly to the Chinese theater.
Fire damaged Garber Manufacturing Company ice cream plant on Lou Braddock Street. Investigators believe an incendiary thief connected a gas line, filled a bucket with gasoline, and set a match alight to test the bucket’s contents. One truck burned, another damaged. stock ruined in the hardening room.
The Graham Stock Company bringing clean, wholesome drama to the Colonial starting February 7. Monday features Cheating Husbands a three act comedy by Max Garcia with change of program daily and popular prices. A grand jury in the Circuit Court of Frederick county has been summoned for service for the February term which begins next Monday February 7. Four cases are slated for grand jury consideration, all involving alleged liquor law infractions. Jury members named include Phil eden Dailey, J. A. R. Clark, Walter E. Adams, Wil Eee RW. Hockman, L. J. Anderson, E. F. Dorsey, as Behaven, R. A. Lemley, and Braithwaite.
The Senate elections committee postponed further action on Frank L. Smith the Illinois designated senator due to an ear infection keeping him at home Smith’s attorney asked for time to confer with him and Illinois Attorney General Carlstrom. The panel remained divided on oath steps and campaign contributions scrutiny.
Samuel Brooks of Winchester has been named by Governor Byrd to the Virginia State Board of Pharmacy for a five year term, succeeding J. J. Williamson. Brooks, proprietor of Brooks Pharmacy on East Piccadilly Street, is a MCV graduate of 1916 and former president of the Virginia Pharmaceutical Association.
The Charley Rouss Fire Company plans a large turnout for a Sunday evening sermon at 7 30 in the Presbyterian Church. Rev. Dr. F. T. Mc Faden will preach, with a choir from Reuss Company and a solo and male quartet. Members meet at 7 sharp at the company hall to march to the church.

U S Senate campaign funds committee wins court orders to seize about 1400 Allegheny county ballot boxes and related November election records. Aldermen and justices of the peace instructed to deliver boxes to the courthouse for sealing and shipment to Washington. Six boxes to stay for prosecutions of 30 indicted in election fraud cases.
The Guthridge case against Lawrence M. Guthridge former policeman charged with operating a vehicle under liquor influence was postponed from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at police headquarters. Bail set at 750 dollars remained in effect, and Guthridge was released after detention through Tuesday night and Wednesday.
At the request of the Alumni Council of Virginia Governor Byrd appoints Clarke county delegates Miss Rose MacDonald and Mrs. John B. Neill to a statewide conference on higher education in Richmond February 9 10 The event features speakers Governor Byrd Douglas Freeman Eugene C Brooks Frank L McVey Eugene Davenport and Robert B Tunstall It marks Virginia’s first such conference.

Motor Vehicle Inspector H K Shull applied for a warrant to arrest Gilbert Tyree on auto theft charges involving Mrs Richard E Byrd's car. Tyree faces trials in Lovington and Waynesboro before potential transfer to Winchester. He was traced to Cadiz Ohio and Leavenworth Kansas before capture and return to Cadiz.
Upperville high school hosts a fast girls basketball squad that overwhelms the home team 33 to 12 in their first game. The town girls, hopeful after the defeat, plan to face Edinburg High School next Monday at Handley gym.
At its annual meeting in Staunton the Shenandoah National Park Circuit Highway, Inc. reelected officers for the coming year. T. B. Patton of Winchester is vice-president, S. Starkweather of Crozet is president, Seth Burnley of Charlottesville is secretary, and A. T. Moore of Staunton is treasurer. The group links roads around the proposed park, including Valley Pike, Midland Trail, Lee Highway, and Spottswood Trail, and pushed for concrete shoulders on the Valley Pike to reduce congestion ahead of park opening.

C. C. Graves, president of the National Bank of Manfield, was abducted by two unidentified men and held at a deserted farmhouse near Howe, Oklahoma. He escaped around midnight and telephoned for help. Constable Andy Pebeyhouse and the bank cashier assisted in bringing him back to Manfield.
