One hundred dollars in prize money will be divided among four runners up at the Forty and Eight Amateur Show to be held 8 p.m. tonight at Handley auditorium. The committee headed by L. E. Hill will award second third and fourth place prizes plus a grand prize of a free trip to New York for an audition. Nineteen contestants are from Virginia, five from West Virginia and one from Pennsylvania, with entries from Winchester, Front Royal, Harrisonburg and other towns. Mickey Sharp of Uniontown Pa is the farthest traveler.

First Confederate Cemetery: The Stonewall Memorial Association
After the Civil War a beach of Confederate graves lay in Winchester near an Episcopalian cemetery neglected and overrun by cattle. A year after Appomattox, women formed the Stonewall Memorial Association led by Mrs Cornelia McDong and Mrs Philip Williams to establish what became the first Confederate cemetery, with officers including Mrs Boyd and Miss Russell, honoring soldiers from all states of the Confederacy.

Two Are Fined by Judge in Police Court
Two men paid fines totaling 150 dollars yesterday in Police Court before Judge John Rice. William Louis Harris of Millwood was fined 50 dollars and costs for hit and run after striking W. H. Hammond’s car last August and not stopping. Elmer Harvey Kline of Highland Avenue paid 104.25 dollars for driving under the influence of intoxicants. Both defendants received 30 day jail terms suspended. A separate case saw Constance Goheen ordered to serve 30 days of a six month sentence for Bad Check Law violation. Other local penalties included Frank L. Worrell for speeding 14.25 dollars and several drunken driving or liquor charges with minor amounts.

Four-inch spike kills worker on building job in Hurley LINT
