Doctors were astonished by Wilson's remarkable tenacity during a night they feared would be his last. His condition prompted urgent care and widespread concern among family and medical staff.
Washington reports say Woodrow Wilson, former president, remains conscious but grows weaker with no nourishment for nearly a day and no pain. Dr. Grayson notes tiny chances of relief and that neither oxygen nor opiates are used. Endurance and timing remain unpredictable as letters and telegrams flood the Wilson home.
Chicago February 2 campaign manager David Ladd Rockwell says the push to nominate William Gibbs McAdoo remains unmoved by reports linking him to the Doheny oil interests. He cites a telegram to McAdoo and notes critics have no grounds to derail the bid. In St Louis Ed A Glenn calls Doheny testimony fatal to McAdoo's candidacy, urging that no state party will support a candidate tied to oil interests under Senate inquiry.
A gas explosion in a Bailey Reynolds Chandelier Company building in Kansas City Missouri killed three people and injured several others. The blast rocked the downtown area and caused extensive damage to surrounding structures.
The Democratic Executive Committee of Winchester will meet at 8 pm on Monday February 4 1924 at the W H Baker Chocolate Company office on East Water Street to examine and certify petitions for mayor and Common Council candidates under the state primary law. Harry Hardy chairman.
The Branson School Community League hosted a social at L. A. Huyett's home for Memorial Hospital of Winchester. About 100 people attended and $46.50 was raised. Committee members included Mrs. Wm. B. Huyett, Mrs. R. R. Whitmore, Mrs. G. W. Whitmore, Mrs. J. W. Stipe, Mrs. John W. Joliffe, and Miss Margaret E. Whetzell. At the twenty eighth annual Virginia State Horticultural Society convention in Roanoke a plan for a non profit cooperative marketing association to pool and sell apples and fruit was presented by P Warber from the University of Tennessee. The proposal would fund central markets and return proceeds to growers, with a June 15 1924 start and signatures covering at least 10000 acres. The plan allows for grading packing and potential community packing houses and may involve leasing purchasing or constructing facilities. A round table discussion followed led by R G Vante J H Meek and J R Hutcheson.
Sarah Zant Fire Company's minstrel presents In Harmonyland a proposed two night show at the Golo line Theatre. Henry F. Seat directs a twelve member orchestra with Madalyn Hall assisting and a cast including Anderson Ritter Windle Bowen Dunn and others introducing new novelties.
The Handley night school is now in session and all who wish to attend should register by Monday February 4th to be admitted. Shorthand is being offered.

Solenberger's North Main street hosts a Memorial Hospital emergency fund cake sale. Over 50 cakes from many bakers, led by a publicity committee, raise funds as volunteers include Mrs. Phil Gold and Mrs. Charles Watts.

Funeral services were held in Staunton for Christian Streit Baker 86 last member of the Winchester Baker family. He died early yesterday at his Staunton home after a heart attack. Survived by two daughters Katharine Bell Baker and Ces Stollenwerk and by several nieces and nephews. wife Frances Baylor Baker died years ago.
In loving remembrance of my dear sister Erastus Cooper who died five years ago. Though the changes since death have come and gone the memory remains.
