Privately Owned Bridge Links Two States and Two Centuries
In Dingmans Ferry Pennsylvania a private bridge connects Pennsylvania and New Jersey across the Delaware River. The Dingmans Choice and Delaware Bridge Co. spans over two centuries of history with 38 shareholders, many relatives from the original 1900 purchase of a wrecked railroad bridge. The toll is 35 cents and the site keeps its old charter granting free crossings for some, including churchgoers and funeral processions.
