State sets deadline on Pentagon area road maintenance
The Virginia State Highway Department will stop maintaining a 10 mile stretch of superhighways in Arlington County at midnight January 31 unless the federal government takes over. Negotiations over transfer of ownership hit an impasse as state officials argue federal ownership lacks clear police jurisdiction. A federal-state meeting is tentatively planned for next Friday to discuss the issue.

Federal District Judge Oren R. Lewis denied a motion to dismiss an indictment against nine defendants in a Fairfax County rezoning bribery conspiracy. The indictment alleges use of interstate facilities to influence county trailer court zoning in 1961 and 1962, with arguments that the conspiracy ended in 1961 before the federal act.
