Carter avoids holiday trip upset by hemorrhoid flare
President Carter’s health issue nearly canceled his Georgia trip. Air Force One carried the first family and key aides, including Hamilton Jordan and Jody Powell, plus Rex Granum and others. Some aides paid for family travel. White House policy billed personal travel at first class fare plus tax and one dollar. Chip Carter and Caron reunited briefly as their son James Earl Carter IV stayed with his mother before joining the diplomats’ party.
