Sketches Withheld In Comedy of Errors
In Los Angeles the release of composite sketches for Hillside Strangler suspects was halted after officials learned the drawings depicted two police officers. Assistant Police Chief Daryl Gates said the men were contacted and not involved. Lt. Dan Cooke said the officers were truthful about a routine traffic stop. Separately, Stephen Devezin, 40, faces murder and gun charges in two strangulations. Thomas Davis, 24, was released for lack of evidence. Police call the killings copycat and not linked to the Hillside Strangler case.
