Saigon reports first VC mortar attack during New Year cease-fire leaves at least one American dead and several wounded. Ten South Vietnamese soldiers are wounded in four more rocket and mortar strikes as the 72 hour halt begins with no major ground fighting.
Five French gunboats sailing from Cherbourg toward Israel’s Haifa face rough seas and cloud cover. Israel Navy escorts slow the ships, with weather hampering interception chances. The convoy, seen east of Sicily and Crete, could reach port only after daylight.
TED MORGAN said the judging occurred last night with about five hours of travel across the city and county. Winners have not yet been notified and will be announced tomorrow.
The Associated Press reports new storms are expected to hit New England late today or tonight though a repeat of the Christmas storm is unlikely. Attorney E. Eugene Gunter denies guilt of unprofessional conduct in a Virginia State Bar Bill of Complaint.
