A federal judge in Washington has ordered the end of the strike against the Southern Railroad. An official said members were ordered to resume work immediately as legal actions conclude.
Estimated 30 to 40 uncommitted House Republicans threaten to tilt the leadership contest between Charles Halleck and Gerald Ford as 140 Republicans meet to elect a new leader. Secret ballots and last minute switches could decide the outcome with Ford expected to win by a slim margin according to aides and Halleck supporters.
The Mercury notes temperatures near 60 degrees today with forecast mild weather through Monday. Averages are expected to run over eight degrees above normal with the low around 31 today. The piece recalls a year ago a cold wave with a high of 30 and low of 12.
