Sen. Barry Goldwater set to announce Friday if he will seek the 1964 Republican presidential nomination. The Arizona frontrunner sent telegrams to supporters stating he will decide after a meeting with Republican leaders at his Phoenix home on January 3.
A motorist leapt from his vehicle this morning to intercept a stray car rolling toward a collision with another auto. He wedged under the wheel and halted it. Residents report a buzzing clock alarm kept a unit awake while a tenant was away on holiday. A new cold wave brings lows of seven to 15 degrees, with possible light snow Thursday or Friday.
Archbishop Lakovos of the Greek Orthodox Church of North and South America urged Christian unity as vital for progress during a Winchester visit to bless a proposed Greek Orthodox Community church site. He spoke at a banquet of over 100 guests, with Rep. John Marsh Jr., Sen. Harry Byrd Jr., and Winchester Mayor Claude Smalts in attendance as leaders praised Greek contributions to the community.

Cleveland AP reports sociologist Dr. Gerhard Falk of SUNY Buffalo says murder is a family matter. He cites a study of 121 Buffalo homicides from 1948 to 1955, finding only 12 percent of victims were strangers to their killers.
