George Riley and Edward Knight, both about 30, are charged under the federal white slave act for enticing Helen Racy and Lula Breeden from Jefferson and Rawson to Winchester and a hotel on Christmas evening. The girls, about 15, were heading to a Baptist Church entertainment. they were taken to Winchester and stayed the night, with the men occupying separate rooms. The girls' fathers searched for them through Christmas, and Riley and Knight have since disappeared.

John W Mort merchant and longtime North Frederick Turnpike gatekeeper on South Braddock street died at his home after a three week illness from heart failure. He had asthma followed by heart trouble and remained conscious to the end. Funeral at Braddock Street Methodist Episcopal Church South with Rev. B. V. Switzer officiating. Mort was active in Shawnee Tribe Red Men and Braddock Street Church, born in Frederick county, about 67. Survived by two sons Fred and Edwin Mort, daughter Mrs. B. P. Newtin, and brother Hunter Mort. widow Lelia M Noakes mort died 12 years ago.
Mr and Mrs J H Henry hosted a reception at their West Cork street home honoring two newly married couples Theodore C Von Witt and Mae Richie from New York and Beulah Grim Henry formerly of the Bell telephone exchange. The event featured supper music games and rich social hour with attendees extending best wishes.
Mrs. Margaret M. Henkel widow of Dr Casper C. Henkel of New Market Virginia died early today in a Wilmington Delaware hospital during an operation Her body will be taken to New Market for burial Her death ends a life of travel between Wilmington and Virginia and she is survived by her daughter Mrs Ellen Rupert of Wilmington and multiple generations of Miller relatives born in Winchester in January 86 years ago she was a lifelong Lutheran and the funeral is expected to be held at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Market.
The United Brethren Church will hold Sunday morning preaching at 11 o clock titled A Glance Backward from Deuteronomy xvii 16. A midnight service will begin at 11 p m and continue until the new year 1923 enters. The Sacrament of the Lord s Supper will be administered at 11 a m Sunday January 7. A prayer meeting follows Wednesday at 7 30 conducted by W P Anderson.
The Star recalls a correction from yesterday stating that Mr B Fries did not give bond for his brother in law Robert Mullen. The genuine surety was Leslie E Fries. Edgar L Fries is not connected and not a brother in law to the accused.
