Lawyer seeks House aid to seize Powell's bank funds
New York AP reports attorney Raye Rubin seeks a House enabling resolution to attach Rep. Adam Clayton Powell’s congressional bank account to satisfy Esther James's $164,000 defamation judgment. Rubin claims sources indicate over $1 million in the account. funds are held by the sergeant at arms in a private House bank and require House approval to touch. The case traces to a 1960 TV broadcast in which Powell called James a bag woman or graft collector.
