Wheat Acreage Shows Decrease in Virginia This Fall

Virginia farmers reduced wheat sowing by about five percent this fall compared with 1918, the 1919 crop estimate report from the Bureau of Crop Estimates Richmond says. The state planted 895,000 acres versus 940,000 last year, aiming to revert to prewar levels as 1910 average was 759,000. Declining prices, delayed seeding, and labor costs are cited as causes.
