Plan Could Make It Easier To Obtain Migrant Workers
Virginia and the federal government reached a plan to simplify migrant crew certification allowing Virginia Employment Commission staff to handle paperwork for crew leaders. The change aims to reduce delays and fines by requiring leaders and assistants to have identification cards and permits for transporting crews to farms. The move could encourage growers to hire legal migrants rather than illicit workers and is expected to end delays caused by paperwork.
