British soldiers moved through Nicosia to keep the peace as tensions rose over explosive disorder. Greek and Turkish forces were delayed in joining the patrols amid ongoing disagreement.
President Johnson was briefed on the Cyprus crisis and planned two day talks with West German Chancellor Ludwig Erhard. CIA Director John A. McCone briefed Johnson at the ranch, as Johnson organized conferences on key points for the Erhard visit.
