Flaming Bed Pitched Out Into Snow
A flaming mattress at 303 E Piccadilly St was doused and pitched into the snow by Winchester firemen at 9 a.m. today. Fire Inspector William Gochenour said the mattress and bed owned by Elizabeth Terry were a total loss with no other damage. Fire at 577 N Cameron St destroyed nearly all contents of a second story bedroom and is blamed on a defective chimney. Round Hill firefighters were called twice within an hour to Horace Moffett’s Merrimans Lane home for an electrical stove fire that reignited after the first effort.
