U S B52 bombers struck Communist bunkers in War Zone C near Saigon and infiltrating North Vietnamese troops in the Demilitarized Zone. Navy jets shot down two Slov o-air missiles near the Gulf of Oakin while reports say North Korean pilots train in North Vietnam.
Virginia Governor Mills E. Godwin Jr reports after talks with President Johnson that HEW desegregation guidelines hurt public schools and hospitals. A Winchester fireman reported that Martinsburg Fire Co. arrived aboard a West Virginia truck soon after a distress call, joking that the quick response came by Rt 81. The incident highlights prompt intercity fire support and highway routing in West Virginia.
