Steer in Winchester Cemetery Faces Long Night of Tests
An 800 pound black angus steer chased into Winchester cemetery was repeatedly darted with tranquilizers by dog warden Harold Whitacre but remained dangerous. After failed attempts to load it for slaughter, a city officer Basil Cooper shot it twice and Herbert Shackelford cut its throat, then the animal was butchered.
