Dynamiters Try To Blow Up Auto Workers Office
In Detroit on December 21 a dynamite attack on the CIO United Auto Workers office failed by a hair. A cache of 39 sticks of dynamite, tape, and gift paper was found near a side stair, with two fuses burning close to the explosives. The building was mostly empty except for two night workers, but nearby General Motors facilities faced danger. Police link the act to attacks on Walter and Victor Reuther, saying the case may reveal a conspiracy against the UAW. Detectives from the special investigation squad pursued leads after an anonymous tip.
