In a brief session last night Commous Council approved on first and second readings an ordinance conferring emergency powers on Mayor Anderson as defense coordinator. By 11 p m special police were guarding springs pumping station and reservoir while Water Department employees were sworn in as special police with full powers and equipment. The Telephone Company pledged readiness for any emergency and Frederick County Supervisors prepared to adopt an ordinance for the coordinator to act in emergencies. A city reserve company will be formed at the armory and council will vote on third reading of the emergency ordinance Monday night.

1000 Children At Free Movie Show

Five Marines Die In Road Crash In Virginia
Five Marines from Paris Island Marine Station were killed when their car collided with a southbound truck on Route 1 about 13 miles south of here. Driver James Digh of Gastonia North Carolina was injured along with Marine R I Hensley. Names of the dead include Corporal Mantelmo and Corporal Heise both of New York, Bruce D Cummings of Buffalo Frank Gouviea of Brooklyn and a Marine Gabay. Hensley was treated at the Medical College of Virginia Richmond while another victim went to Martha Washington Hospital.
