President Nixon says inflation battle is in danger and could be saved if Congress trims federal spending despite a $192.9 billion ceiling. He argues Congress actions add billions to costs, warns against tax cuts that raise prices, and urges responsible policy to protect consumer buying power.
A trio of federal judges ruled the Georgia Board of Education must halt state funds to districts without desegregation plans by March 1970. Integrated schools must enroll 75 percent of minority students in integrated facilities and plans must meet court standards by May 1 and be fully implemented by September 1, 1970. This marks the first nationwide case assigning state-level desegregation responsibility and setting specific standards. The ruling follows a Justice Department suit filed last August.
An Egyptian infantry unit crossed the northern Suez Canal before dawn and attacked Israeli positions, destroying one tank and two armored cars according to Cairo. Israel denied the losses and reported about 30 raiders crossed in two groups, with casualties among Israeli forces and several Egyptians.

Hollans Jr. reports for the Virginia State Chamber of Commerce that hotels and convention centers saw gains in tourism and conventions, with Northern Virginia outlets lifting restaurant sales by 5 to 6 percent and some venues doubling 1968 business.
