The Duke and Duchess of Windsor, en route from a Florida trip, spoke with officials after a dental operation and surveys considered seaplane base sites in the Bahamas. Mayaguana Island was proposed for the station but President Roosevelt deemed it unsuitable due to poor anchorages.
Baker of Kissimmee Florida handed $15 to Patrolman Wisecarver and Officer Manuel as collateral for his appearance after speeding and running a red light. Frederick county farmers in the 1940 agricultural conservation program are receiving checks.78 checks arrived covering 76 applications, totaling 2403.43 dollars. Total 1940 conservation payments to date reach 56008.58 dollars of 90000 possible. County agent Fred Stine said farmers will be notified as checks arrive and listed aid figures for fertilizers limestone and parity payments. First to complete AAA work in Virginia this year, the project was overseen by Miss Mildred Tidler and committee members Grover Schlack T B Rosenberger.

NAIROBI Kenya Colony Dec 18 AP A strong British force with armored vehicles and artillery advanced 35 miles into Italian Somalis and raided the El Wak base. The communique reports 50 Italians killed and several officers among 25 Italians captured plus 50 native troops, three guns, machine guns and stores seized.
In a British RAF communique Italian troops were reported retreating toward Derna, 150 miles into Libya, as RAF fighters machine-gunned retreating columns between Bardia and Tobruk. Western desert dispatches say Bardia was isolated by British armor from the west and fresh units closed in from the east.
