Three youths and a girl die in a headlights crash on the Keymar road near Taneytown. Olga Graham 18 Vaughan 22 Roy B Kiser 19 die from impact or at Frederick City Hospital. The car failed to navigate a curve and broke apart near Miss Virgie Shry's home. Sheriff and state police traced the wreck to the early morning hours after the collision.
A House committee record includes a letter by NLRB regional director Philip G. Phillips describing a Cincinnati city editor as a “swell guy and a dear fiend of mine” who killed a story critical of the board. Phillips asserted no suppression occurred in a Cincinnati Enquirer series on an NLRB hearing with American Rolling Mills.

Heywood Broun, 51, columnist and president of the American Newspaper Guild, died in Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center after pneumonia developed from a heavy cold. He had been unconscious much of the time and his temperature rose to 105.2 degrees at 8 a.m. Broun joined the Roman Catholic Church last summer and is survived by his mother Mrs Heywood Cox Broun, his widow Connie Dooley, and a son Heywood Hale Broun.
Miss Agnes L. Willis aged 74 75 as per report died at 9 15 this morning at 310 North Kent street Winchester after weeks of illness. Daughter of Henry V and Rebecca Langley Willis she lived all her life in Winchester born September 14 1865. A Market Street Methodist Church member she was sister-in-law to Florence Hodgson Willis and aunt to John A Kern Harry H and W Carroll Willis. Funeral services are planned for 3 o'clock Thursday at her North Kent street homeplace.
A reliable informant aboard the Ark Royal says the British aircraft carrier was struck by a large bomb in the North Sea. One gun was wrecked and new plates show damage. Two fast planes crashed in mid air last Tuesday, killing seven men. The Ark Royal arrived for refuelling and sailed the same day. The battle cruiser Renown sailed today after loading fuel.
Copenhagen reports say Finnish patrols with light machine guns and field guns harassed Russian advances on the eastern flank of the Mannerheim line. Finnish guns claimed to have smashed Russian tank efforts and destroyed about 30 tanks over two days in the Ladoga region.
The Frederick County court praised Burr P. Harrison as he completed his eighth and final year as commonwealth's attorney. His last trial involved Harry Stewart, convicted in the Samuel Carter slaying with a 35 year penitentiary sentence. The November 4 murder preceded Harrison's election to the State Senate from the 25th district. Judge Philip Williams lauded Harrison's integrity, energy, and intelligence in office, noting his stand among Frederick's prosecutor lineage.

Berlin reports British planes destroyed in air battle off Helgoland while four British merchant ships sunk and three warships damaged in a raid. London confirms loss of three ships and submarine claims sinking a 6 000 ton German cruiser in the Elbe estuary.
Berlin reports a major air clash off Helgoland with 44 British bombers. German fighters led by Captain Schumacher scattered the formation. two German planes were lost and British crews used parachutes. Some wreckage washed ashore near the German coast.

A downtown display features a courthouse front tree decorated with two bushels of red apples wrapped in cellophane. Local officials say the apple premise came from the city manager's office and supplies include William Beverley Sweet cider and Allegheny maple syrup. A nine year old girl from York county New Brunswick sent a Santa letter attached to a glass bottle attached to the tree, now exhibited in Winchester by J Hofert Christmas tree distributors.
London reports heavy raids sinking three ships in the North Sea. Two fishing trawlers and the Serenity were lost. A British admiralty statement claimed a marine penetrated Elbe defenses and sunk a 6,000 ton German cruiser. Germany disputed the loss. The Ursula submarine was credited with the cruiser sinking.
Lawrence S. Davis, a Roanoke businessman active in Democratic politics and former city treasurer, died last night at his Roanoke home after months of illness. He is survived by his widow Blanche Rover Davis. no children. The funeral will be held in Roanoke tomorrow.
The Falls Church degree team will visit Madison Lodge No. 6 tonight to confer the second and third degrees on ten local candidates. Grand Lodge officers are expected including Harry W. Seabright as Grand of Madison Lodge. Refreshments will be served.
