AP reports in Saigon a teenage assailant hurled a hazardous device into a truck carrying U S soldiers, injuring 12 with one seriously hurt. Saigon marked the Viet Cong anniversary amid renewed violence as U S air operations continued against North and river shipping in the Mekong Delta.
Washington AP reports US combat deaths through January 1961 stand at 1,496 with 1,241 this year. Communist losses are estimated around 35,000, while allied kill ratios show 2.7 to 1 in favor of the Allies.
