Negro Educator To Call Meeting On Race Problems
Norfolk Virginia, prominent Virginians from white and Negro communities will be invited to plan for integration in Virginia public schools. Virginia Teachers Association director Dr. J Rupert Picott urged an overt plan for acceptance of integration and criticized Byrnes and Almond for opposing abolition of segregation. He warned against political inaction and said a cross racial meeting should occur next year to guide public life toward democratic reform. He noted Negro teachers are highly trained and could improve education for white students as trust grows.
