Flight Tragedy Near Lexington Kills Financier
Phineas Stephens, financier and aviation enthusiast, died after plunging 2,000 feet from an airplane when a cyclone struck near Lexington, Virginia. Richard R. Fellers of Martinsburg, and Capt. Charles A. Masson of the Maryland National Guard barely survived as the craft hurtled toward the mountains. Fellers was knocked into the cockpit, while Masson steadied the plane. The flight, begun in Winchester, included visits to New Market, Harrisonburg, Staunton and Kingston, strengthening interest in Shenandoah Valley airports.

Miss Mary Johnson and her mother Mrs Addie Johnson were injured when their car collided on the Double S grade near Gore with a Pennsylvania dealer's car.
