Fashion and thrift clash in the tale of coats and pride
In a reflective piece by Walt Mason the narrator laments rising fashion costs and the burden on women to keep up with outfits and trends. He recalls Aunt Jemima as a cultural reference while contrasting old garments with new, urging courage against fashion tyranny. The prose shifts to local market notices and price lists for farm goods, including chickens, potatoes, butter, and hay, painting a snapshot of rural life and commerce.
